Newsletter for Week Beginning 20th November 2017

Dear parents, children and carers, w/b Monday 20th November 2017

This newsletter is kindly sponsored by KEITH REYNOLDS BRICKWORK

The newsletter is also on Facebook

Last week, our snowman song and a couple of frosty mornings, set us talking about the weather. We found ice and made ’frozen’ pictures exploring white paint, glitter and shiny silver papers. Most of the children couldn’t recall playing in snow and we are not likely to have any, but we are excited at the thought of it! This week we’ll have white playdough, white ‘goo’ (cornflour and hair conditioner!) and shaving foam snow to explore. We’ll use circles of different sizes and textures, twigs, lolly sticks, buttons etc to make snow ’people’ collages. We’ll use the internet to find snowy countries and how people live and travel in snow. Which animals live in snow? You could do this with your child at home.

Last week we also made cakes and Pudsey biscuits and you donated towards Children in Need. We haven’t banked donations yet so it’s not too late to donate. Register at www.easyfundraising.org.uk and select ‘Hummingbirds Garstang’ to help raise funds. Get the reminder app if you are already registered so you never miss a chance to raise funds for Hummingbirds! We have just exceeded £600 mark – this has taken only 2 years with a relatively small number of supporters. Think how much more we could be raising with your help. We do rely heavily on fundraising as we are a voluntary setting. 100 club membership is another easy way to help details on easel or ask. Donate from £2 a month and get the chance to win half our monthly takings every month!

NUT ALLERGY – remember we have a child with a mild nut allergy so no nuts/nut products please.

*30 HOURS FUNDING * parents with current codes need to be thinking about if they need to re-confirm their eligibility with HMRC. Also, if your child is 3 this term and you would like to access 30 hours funding next term then you need to apply BEFORE Christmas or you will have to wait until the Easter term.

SICKNESS Please phone nursery or text 07796555231 if your child is off sick. Remember, you MUST keep your child off 48 hours after last episode of sickness and/or diarrhoea - it really helps prevent rapid spread of the bug. HEADLICE – please check regularly and treat if necessary.

BODY SHOP PARTY THIS Tuesday from 7.30pm at Hummingbirds. £2 only to enter, gets you mince pie/biscuits, wine or tea/coffee. If you cannot come but would like to order please see catalogue or speak to Sarah, Gemma or Janet. All commission is to be donated to our funds.

CHRISTMAS FAIR 3RD DECEMBER 11 am (after mass) til approx 1pm. Watch out for details on how you can help. Raffle tickets on sale now. Raffle will be drawn at the Christmas fair.

CLOTHING. Please do send warm clothes for inside as well as coats. It can get chillier in nursery room, though it often feels hot when you come in. Gloves and hats are best labelled! Also, please do send in a set of spare clothes in case of toileting accidents. We have run out of girls’ knickers and leggings, so, if you have any we could have as spares we would be very grateful for them.

SWEATSHIRTS a number of parents have asked about these. They are optional. You can only buy them from Mikes Sports World (Uniform and Leisurewear shop on Church street) FOOTWEAR. Could those children taking part in dance and/or football please wear shoes or trainers on those days. We don’t want any accidents and we find that wellies and crocs tend to slip on the floor in the big back room.

CHRISTMAS celebrations… Monday 18th December ...Singing. Morning approx. 9.10 am we will sing our Christmas songs. Children are invited to dress in nativity costume or Christmas clothes. We do have nativity costumes you may borrow, please ask in advance though. We would like to start promptly that morning so will let children in a little earlier. Please don’t be late, we won’t be able to wait for you. Refreshments will be served after for those who can stay a while. Song lyrics are available for you to take home and practice!

Children’s party. Monday 18th December, afternoon from 1.30 pm – 3pm. Mr Jolly the magician is coming again! The children love him and he is very calm and has fantastic control of them (he really is magic!) He doesn’t come cheap and so we suggest £5 per child to help us cover costs; we provide food and a small gift. For those children who do not normally attend these sessions on Mondays, let Janet know IN ADVANCE if you want to attend either event. Everyone welcome.

Church – Once we start to tell the nativity story, we will be walking across to look at the church. The children who go to mass can share their personal experience of going to church with us all. Permission is included on registration forms.

Best wishes, Janet, Shirley, Carole, Bridget and Helen
