Newsletter for Week Beginning 25th June 2018

Dear parents, children and carers 25th June 2018

This newsletter is kindly sponsored by KEITH REYNOLDS BRICKWORK

The newsletter is also on our website, on our Facebook page or by email on request

Last week we read the stories of the Hungry Caterpillar and the Crunching Munching Caterpillar, made caterpillars and butterflies, all unique. We also made amazing caterpillars with the playdough, using matchsticks, pegs etc to decorate them. We compared sizes – short/er/est and long/er/est and some children decided to use a ruler to measure them. Some of us made caterpillar biscuits and had a go at making repeating patterns with smarties. We’ll do that again next week with other groups as it was good fun and delicious too! We also acted out the life cycle from egg to butterfly and learned a caterpillar rhyme – ‘Little Anabella Miller had a little caterpillar…’! I wonder if the older ones can remember it and teach it to you?! We have had fun looking after Kenneth the guinea-pig - some children were fascinated by him.

Rufus the rabbit and Joey the budgie are coming back soon for their holidays! We will enjoy watching

them, finding out about them and caring for them. We’ll soon have our own zoo! We will look at animal stories next week, such as Dear Zoo, Monkey Puzzle, Monkey see Monkey Do, Giraffes Can’t Dance, and chat about our experiences of going to the zoo. We can sort animals and build our own zoo, sing ‘We’re all going to the zoo tomorrow’ and ‘the animals came in 2 by 2’. We’ll look at our new globe and think about where the different animals live too. Don’t forget, please do send or bring in postcards from your /your family travels. If you are going away please do let us know in advance. Don’t forget we have a selection of photos on our website www.hummingbirds-nursery.com most weeks, giving you a taste of our week at Hummingbirds.

As it’s sports day next door this week we will have our own little races and make obstacle courses.

30 HOURS FUNDING * if applying for 30 hours from September, you need to be doing this now and have a code before 31st August. Parents receiving 30 hour check your ’grace period’ dates!

WEATHER – it is going to be VERY HOT all week. The best advice is really to cover up with loose long sleeves and sun hats or stay out of the sun. If the weather is really hot we can reapply later with your permission however we will monitor the heat and bring children in if we feel they are not safe. PLEASE BRING SUN HATS THIS WEEK & PUT LABELLED SUN-CREAM IN THE BASKETS TO BE PROVIDED AND COLLECT IT AT END OF DAY IF YOU NEED IT AT HOME. We cannot check each child’s bag for sun-cream. Hats and glasses are available but children prefer their own hats.

WATER PLAY! Given that it will be hot we thought we might let the children paddle and have a bit of a splash! – in the mornings before its gets too hot. However, we would need you to send spare clothes to change into – come in the clothes you don’t mind getting wet. We’ll provide towels. Older children can practice getting themselves dressed and undressed (We might live to regret this decision!) Of course, children don’t have to do it if they don’t want to.
