Newsletter for Week Beginning 24th September 2018

Dear parents, children and carers 23rd September 2018

This newsletter is kindly sponsored by KEITH REYNOLDS BRICKWORK

The newsletter is also on our website, on our Facebook page or by email on request

We made bread pizzas for our snack last week. We chose our own toppings and learned that we all like different things. We also make our own playdough with the children and have been voting to choose the colour we want each week! These are the British Values of individuality and democracy in action! See our display if you want to understand more about our duty to promote the British values.

We will make and be selling cakes throughout this week in aid of Macmillan. On Friday 28th we will serve teas and coffees from 9am. Please stay if you can. We will also have a couple of raffle type fundraisers too running throughout the week to be drawn on Friday.

The weather looks set to be nice over the week or so we will go for autumn strolls on the school field or around church grounds and back, you have signed your permission on the registration forms. Any concerns please speak to Janet. We’ll collect leaves, seeds etc and mix autumn colours and make autumn pictures with the things we find.

We are still enjoying the Three little Pigs story a lot; it always catches the children’s imaginations and is also great for counting and ordering opportunities. Ask your child to tell you the story or tell them the story and let them join in the repeated refrains, ‘I huff and I’ll puff…’ and ‘Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin!’ We’ll also be having a go at making some houses for the pigs to hide in.

www.easyfundraising.org.uk is a website which we use to help raise valuable funds for Hummingbirds. As a voluntary setting we do rely on fundraising to help provide new resources and equipment. If you shop on-line at all, please consider registering on this website and donating to ‘Hummingbirds Garstang’, each time you shop, certain retailers donate a percentage of your spending to us. Since we set this up nearly 3 years ago, we have raised about £750.00. It is easy!

100 club membership is another easy way to help raise funds details on easel or ask. Donate from £2 a month and get the chance to win half our monthly takings every month! The other half helps towards our rent to the parish.

PACKED LUNCHES: Just to let you know that we do our best to encourage children to eat their lunches and will send home what they do not, or will not, eat so you can keep tabs on it! Remember they do have a morning and afternoon snack and drink too. no nuts/nut products

CHOKING 3 staff have just completed their level 3 paediatric first aid and we are reminded once again that grapes must be chopped and that also raw carrot chunks are a major source of choking as children are not able to chew it as well. If you could send finer carrots sticks as well as chopping rapes please. Remember we have lots of children to keep an eye on.

30 HOURS FUNDING Parents already receiving 30 hour funding please check if are you in the ’grace period’? You can lose funding if you do not respond to reminders to update your funding. If you want to claim for 30 hours funding you must do so the term before you want to start using it i.e. this term ready for January.

PICK UP times 3pm. Please try and be as prompt as possible thank you as staff need to tidy and set up for the following day.

SPARE CLOTHES Please put names/initials on all clothes. Just taken about 6 coats with no names on to the charity shop, left over the summer, and kept same as spares!

AGM Thursday 11th October 7pm in Hummingbirds – our annual general meeting is coming up soon. All welcome to attend. If you are interested in joining our committee please do ask.

BODY SHOP PARTY Tuesday evening 13th November at 7pm here at Hummingbirds, to raise funds for Hummingbirds. Please come along if you can, bring a friend! Watch out for details and catalogues soon. We had a Body Shop evening last year and it was good fun AND there were great discounts to be had as well as lots of prizes. Get some of your Christmas shopping done and help us raise some funds at the same time!

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH day. Once again, Mel Jones photographer will be at Hummingbirds Saturday morning 3rd November. Please ask if you wish to book a time slot. Photos bought on your approval. Hummingbirds make some money on each pack sold. He will take individual and or group photographs.

Characteristics of Effective Learning find out more about what these are on our photo display in the corridor. Learning is not all about writing, counting, knowledge, facts and information, it is about HOW we approach learning, how we plan and think. It is very important to develop these characteristics in our children through open ended and challenging activities which allow scope to explore and imagine.

Best wishes, Janet, Shirley, Carole, Bridget, Gemma and Becca
