Dear parents, children and carers 28th January 2019

This week we have had fun in the snow and made snowmen using 2D shapes. We helped make porridge and enjoyed warm drinks and toast too. We are heeding government advice re children and their sugar intake and will be serving savoury snacks in the morning. ‘Change4life’ has very useful advice about making swaps to cut down on your child’s sugar intake which may be worth checking out.
We continue to feed the birds and spotting birds with our new binoculars. If you did your own birdwatch the children can tell us what they saw in their garden.
The next couple of weeks we will learn about traditions and customs related to Chinese New Year which is officially celebrated on 5th February this year. We’ll make lucky papercuts, orange and red fruit salad – oranges are lucky as the Chinese word is very similar to the word for gold, we’ll look at Chinese writing, try some Chinese food and celebrate with a Dragon dance. We will make little dragons – so any egg boxes or boxes that fit on your child’s head will be useful. Look on the internet with your child and see what you can find out together – can you find out which animal this year will celebrate? Have a look at the dragon dancing. There is a Chinese festival in Lancaster 3rd February between 11am and 4pm with the parade at 2pm. We have bought some lovely new books to support our understanding of this festival.
