Before half term we listened to the story of Peter and the Wolf and the music of Prokovief and the children seemed to really enjoy it. They were fascinated when Aunty Helen played her flute, and we looked at other instruments from the story in our new books about the orchestra, as well as acting out the characters and the drama! We will have a go at making some simple shakers and percussion instruments this week. We had fun making both pretend pancakes and real ones to eat! Mr Wolf’s Pancakes is a great story for the older children with a shocking twist! We will look at Chinese New Year traditions this week: make a Chinese dragon head to dance with, learn songs and listen to some Chinese music. We’ll make lucky red paper cuts, lanterns, look at Chinese writing and try some Chinese food. Dragon stories should be popular too! Have a look on the internet with your child at traditional Chinese dances and food etc Older children should be encouraged to think of a question, what would they like to know or find out?
